Support for SOPWC (Supportive Organization for Poor Women and Children) - shelter for widows and children in Kabul

The Afghan Ministry of Women's Affairs has recorded an increasing number of households in which the woman is the head of the family. Lonely widows and their children do not own the land, have no access to electricity, water and sanitary equipment. Their households are characterised by the highest poverty indicators. The local "Supportive Organization for Poor Women and Children" (SOPWC) runs a shelter for poor women and children and provides them with basic social services. As part of the project, food, hygienic and medical supplies as well as clothing
and staple equipment were purchased. This led to an improvement of daily life of the project's beneficiaries and enabled them to survive the winter of 2008/2009.
