Iraq’s key problem is the lack of security and the necessity of reconstructing its infrastructure.

In 2005, Iraq’s constitution (prepared by an elected temporary assembly) was adopted in a referendum and parliamentary elections were organised. The country’s government was appointed in 2006. Despite efforts made towards stabilisation and the agreement between Iraq’s major political forces, the acts of violence are not dying down. Civilians are faced with the problem of limited access to drinking water and vital necessities.

Polish assistance activities in Iraq include:

  • support for reconstruction of state structures
  • assistance in carrying out market reforms
  • technical assistance for Iraqi administration
  • drinking water supply programmes for the population
  • conservation system for Iraqi historical objects
