The EU provides food aid under international agreements, mainly through the World Food Programme (WFP). In 2004, Poland contributed $200,000 to the WFP. Currently the Development Co-operation Department has intensified activities towards strengthening co-operation with the World Food Programme, thanks to which it will be possible to involve Poland in the WFP’s comprehensive food aid projects at the right time.

In 2006, Poland ratified the Food Aid Convention. We also support the position of the EU, namely, that of striving to depart from food aid in kind in favour of food aid in cash. So far, Poland has not provided any foreign food aid in kind within the framework of development co-operation.
