This year, with co-operation from the MFA, the Simba Friends Foundation Team returned to Kenya to organise their next project as part of Polish Aid 2007. The ‘Activation of the Sega community - IT education, eco-development’ project - which is part of a broader program titled Sega Silicon Valley – sets up a number of computer halls in the Sega village, creates a common IT Centre, and organises numerous training courses in IT know-how, computer operation and programming. The team also plans to run a series of environmental awareness courses, as well as, set up garden nurseries in educational centres located in the village. The Simba Friends Foundation team is in Kenya since July 17, 2007. Its employees and volunteers will stay in the Sega village till the end of the year. They will realise the project together with the local community, share their experiences, knowledge and skills gained. The benefits are on both sides, as they hope to learn even more about the local community, which is largely made up of the Luo tribe. The official opening of the project took place on July 25, during a meeting with the school’s representatives, where the computer labs will be situated. The Simba Friends Team also participated at a local gathering (suah), where they had an opportunity to present information about the project to the Sega community. At present, the project is running at a fine pace, and what’s more in good atmosphere. Work to adapt the classrooms into computer labs is taking place at all the schools. The team has also began preparations to hold the IT training courses. "We are delighted by the fact that Poles want to help in Africa - the Foundation has even more volunteer applicants - and that Poles devote their own time and share their skills with others".
